We know that getting everything you own from one place to another can be one of the most stressful parts of the moving process. So we've come up with our top 5 tips to help make moving day a little easier.
Creative a moving checklist
Moving involves more than just packing your belongings up into boxes. Especially if you are moving from one rental to another. From making sure the bills are paid before you leave, to letting the different organisations know you’re moving there’s more to consider. So get in control, manage your time effectively and efficiently by having a moving checklist. Not sure where to start - download our free one - here. Don’t forget to add reminders on your phone to make sure you don’t forget anything.
Don’t be a hoarder
This is a great time to de-clutter and have a clear out, and will help you feel more organised. As a general rule of thumb if you haven’t used or worn an item in the last year then it’s probably time to get rid or donate to a charity. And it means when you start packing, you'll only be packing the things that you need to. An added bonus is you’ll probably be moving fewer boxes, which’ll not only help your stress levels but will also give you more breathing space to arrange things in your new place.
Start packing early
Give yourself enough time to pack. You’ve probably heard it before from friends or family - but seriously don’t leave things to the last minute. Packing can take more time than you think! Thinking about all the things that need packing from all the rooms can be a bit overwhelming. So focus on packing one room at a time. This will help you to organise better and will save time when you’re unpacking.
Leave the Kids with friends or family
It’s great to get the kids involved in things, but when it comes to moving it’s probably best to leave them with some friends or family members. As after the first hour of exploring the new family home they’re likely to get bored and start causing chaos! So avoid the stress and leave them with friends or family for the day and if you’ve got any pets send them to a kennel/cattery.
Take a picture of the back of your TV.
So one of things you’ll definitely want to get sorted in your new place is your TV. If not for you - definitely for the kids, keeping them occupied while you get the rest of the place sorted! But it can be difficult to remember where all those wires go. So snap a pic of the back of your TV while it’s still plugged in and it’ll make it easier to set it all back together.
